Details About This Roller Shutter Door

This fire shutter is the Curtain Model 550. It consists of interlocking slats that are cold rolled formed from hot dipped galvanized steel with optional baked on gray polyester enamel coating or 304 stainless steel with a number 4 finish curved flat profile SF1 or extruded aluminum profile SE1. Each end of the alternate slats are to be assembled with galvanized steel end locks to maintain the slat alignment and to act as a wearing surface inside of the door guides. The slat thickness shall be calculated with U.S. gauging with a minimum of 22 ga.uage. The steel slats are to be hot dipped galvanized as per A.S.T.M. A653. Each curtain shall receive a bottom bar to maintain the slat alignment and posture.

The bottom bar shall consist of one steel factory painted angle a minimum of ⅛ inch thick. The bottom bar shall be provided with a lift handle and slide bolts.

The spring counterbalance is to be housed in a steel pipe of the appropriate diameter and the wall thickness is to support the curtain. The deflection shall be limited to a maximum of .03 inch per foot of door width. The springs are to consist of a helical torsion type designed to meet a 25 percent safety load factor. The safety factor allows for a safe operation, ease of use, and longer spring life. The springs are to be grease packed and anchored, using a cast iron anchor, to a cold rolled steel inner shaft. The spring tension shall be fully adjustable from the outside of the end bracket plate. To ensure a smooth operation end bracket, the plates shall contain sealed ball bearings to minimize the wear of the pipe shaft.

The end bracket plates shall consist of a factory painted steel plates that are no less than ⅛ inch thick. The bracket plates are to house the pipe shaft and the counterbalance assembly. The shaft is attached to a plate by sealed ball bearings fitted onto a plate.

The guides shall consist of an extruded aluminum channels that are a minimum of 2 inches deep. The guides will bolt together and feature a removable door stop. The guide depth shall be of a length adequate to provide for the proper slat penetration.

The hoods shall consist of a minimum of number 24 gauge hot dipped galvanized steel with a baked on gray or bronze polyester enamel coating. The hoods are designed to protect and house the counterbalance assembly. To prevent a hood sag intermediate the supports shall be furnished as required.

The locking for manual and crank operated doors are to be slidebolts mounted on the bottom bar with provisions for padlocks. The gearing within motors are to be self-locking.

The finish on all non-galvanized surfaces shall receive a factory coat of rust inhibiting enamel. The aluminum standard is mil finish. The field painting is not included in this section.

Installation is to be by USP or by an authorized dealer.
