Model 700 Fire Doors
The versatility of Model 700 fire doors are incredible. While being UL rated and enabled with automatic-closing capabilities, they can still be used as regular coiling service doors, should you so choose. Our fire doors are manufactured with UL labels of Class A, B, or C; however, their sizes can be customized to an extent with UL oversize certificates.
Operation
The Model 700 fire door can be installed with different operating mechanisms. Have your fire doors installed with either a manual life, removable crank, chain hoist with gear reduction, external industrial motors, CGO chain hoist and crank with automatic testing, the FDC-1000 automatic resetting fire door motor operator, or the FGH easy reset fire door motor operator.
Highlights
Other capabilities of the Model 700 fire door includes UL labels of 3, 1½, and ¾ hours. The fire door’s heat-sensing technology will allow the doors to close automatically, with additional smoke protection available that makes the fire door more reliable than alternative options.
Door sizes can be customized to fit openings that are 43 feet and 6 inches wide by 26 feet tall. The doors also include viscous-governor technology, as well as a 165-degree fusible link.
Details
The Model 700 fire door is available in either galvanized steel with a baked-on gray polyester enamel coating, or 304 stainless steel with a number 4 finish curved profile or flat profile. The curtains of the fire door are formed by interlocking slats that are cold roll formed from either of the above materials.
When working in high-wind areas, it’s important that your fire doors have some wind resistance as well. By standard, the Model 700 fire door can withstand wind loads of 20 psf. If your fire door needs to be able to sustain higher wind loads, consult with United Steel Products to create a custom order.
The springs of the counterbalance of the door are designed to meet a 25% safety load factor. This safety factor allows for the ease of use, safe operation, and greater longevity of the springs. The tension of the springs are also fully adjustable with end brackets that contain sealed ball bearings to minimize wear and tear.
The viscous speed governor controls the fire door’s rate of descent in the case of a fire and is self-adjusting to create a smoother and quieter descent. The viscous speed governor is set to descend at 6 inches to 24 inches per second in accordance with NFPA 80 specifications.
For more information and specifications about each part of this fire door, see the Model 700 product page or contact United Steel Products.
Model 750 Fire Shutters
Another option to keep your business safe in the event of a fire is to have the Model 750 fire shutters installed. With the same amount of versatility as our fire doors, the Model 750 shutters can be up to 13 feet and 6 inches wide and 12 feet tall with UL labels Class A, B, or C, while still being able to function as normal counter rolling shutters. Oversized fire shutters can be manufactured up to 20 feet wide.
The Model 750 fire shutter is manufactured by United Steel Products with a curtain, hood, guides, counterbalance, and additional features if requested.
Operation
The Model 750 fire shutters can be installed to be operated using a variety of mechanisms. The fire shutters can be installed with either a manual lift, external motors, a hand crank with or without automatic testing, tubular models with the option of automatic testing, or the FDCL-1000 automatic resetting fire door operator.
Highlights
The Model 750 fire shutters have similar capabilities as the Model 700 fire doors, making them complementary installations to one another in order to keep your business safe from a fire.
Along with UL labels that will automatically close the fire shutters for either 3, 1½, or ¾ hours, the fire shutters can also be manufactured with smoke protection.
The viscous speed governor can be set to automatically close the door at different speeds in order for employees to safely leave the building.
The fire shutters also have bent steel guides and a fusible link.
Details
The curtain of the Model 750 fire shutters are constructed of either hot-dipped galvanized steel with an optional baked-on gray polyester enamel coating or 304 stainless steel with a number 4 finish flat profile. The curtain is manufactured with interlocking slats that are cold roll formed.
The spring counterbalance is designed with helical torsion to meet a 25% safety load factor. This design allows the springs to be easy to use and operate, and it extends the life of the spring counterbalance. The tension of the spring is adjustable from an external end bracket plate that contains sealed ball bearings. This minimizes the wear on the mechanism.
This viscous speed governor can be set to automatically close the fire shutters at speeds of 6 inches per second up to 24 inches per second, complying with NFPA 80 specifications. The governor may be triggered by either a fire alarm, smoke detector, heat detector, or the 165-degree melting fuse link.

Model FDC Fire Door Operator
In order for your fire doors and fire shutters to work at their highest potential to keep your business safe in the event of a fire, make sure to have them installed with the FDC fire door and fire shutter operator. The Model FDC is capable of operating doors up to 350 square feet.
Specifications
The Model FDC fire door operator can be installed with an electronic thermal sensor, detector, or alarm activation to control the fire door or fire shutter. The motor can control either the closing or internal release and brake with controlled closing.
Another option with the FDC fire door operator is to have a melting fusible link installed that will trigger the door to shut at 165 degrees.
As a safety feature, the Model FDC fire door operator will not shut on an object in the pathway of the fire door or fire shutter. Instead, the motor will cycle and stop before hitting the obstruction. Once the sensor on the fire door operator has detected that the obstruction has been removed, the fire door or fire shutter will shut the rest of the way.
The Model FDC fire door operator also includes failsafe procedures in the event of a power outage or system failure. In the event of a power outage, the door will activate warning devices to release the door internally at a controlled speed after a selected time delay when the power goes out. If there is a system failure, the door will activate internally and release at a controlled speed.

Model FDCL Fire Door Operator
Another option for an in-line gear drive fire door motor operator is the Model FDCL from United Steel Products. This fire door operator is ideal for fire doors and fire shutters that are up to 150 square feet. Order your Model FDCL fire door operator to make your fire doors and fire shutters as safe as possible.
Specifications
Make sure your fire doors and fire shutters always close safely, with automatic closing that doesn’t lose spring tension. The Model FDCL fire door operator can also be installed with either an electronic thermal sensor, detector, or alarm activation to control the motor closing or the internal release and brake-controlled closing. A fusible link is also an option to activate the doors to close once the link melts at 165 degrees.
The Model FDCL fire door operator also has a two-hour backup battery with an automatic-close feature once the battery has run out. To close the door prior to the battery running out but during a power outage, the door can be activated using a warning device to internally release the fire door at a controlled speed. The delay time should be set beforehand to take advantage of this feature.
There is also a feature that closes the doors automatically in the case of a total system failure. In the event of a system failure, the doors will be triggered to close internally with a controlled descent.
Whether from a thermal sensor, a power outage, battery drainage, or system failure, the Model FDCL fire door operator will never shut on an object in the way of the door. In fire doors and fire shutters that have a sensing edge, the motor will recognize the obstruction and cycle without hitting the object. Once the object has safely been removed from the path of the fire door or fire shutter, the operator will close the door the rest of the way.

Access Controls
The final touch of your fire door and fire shutter system is your access controls. Make sure you implement a fire door release system that can interpret signals between the smoke detector and the fire door so that the mechanism can respond appropriately.
United Steel Products offers three different fire door release systems that can be installed with both motorized and non-motorized doors. All fire door release systems are compliant with NFPA 80 regulations for fail-safe door holder and release devices.
